Brad Pitt Sent James Gray ‘The Lost City of Z’ Novel

Gray explains the call he received from Brad Pitt.

BackstageOL’s Dave Morales sat down with director James Gray in this backstage interview to talk about the upcoming action adventure The Lost City of Z, based on David Grann’s best-selling novel The Lost City of Z: A Tale of Deadly Obsession in the Amazon.

In the interview, Gray discussed the phone call he received from Brad Pitt who told him about the book and how challenging it was to film in the jungle.

“When you get down there, and you’re in 100 degrees, 100% humidity every singly day – you realize, we are invaders in world that is basically populated by insects and animals,” he explained. “But you do it because you want to try and bring audiences someplace they don’t go in their daily lives. It was crazy.”

Synopsis:

At the dawn of the 20th century, British explorer Percy Fawcett journeys into the Amazon, where he discovers evidence of a previously unknown, advanced civilization that may have once inhabited the region. Despite being ridiculed by the scientific establishment, which views indigenous populations as savages, the determined Fawcett, supported by his devoted wife, son, and aide-de-camp, returns to his beloved jungle in an attempt to prove his case.

The Lost City of Z hits theaters this Friday, April 21st. Check out the full interview with Gray below:
