Director Christopher Nolan Talks War-Film ‘Dunkirk’

The film tells the true story of the evacuation of Dunkirk.

BackstageOL’s Dave Morales sat down with director Christopher Nolan to talk about war-film Dunkirk, set during World War II.

In the interview, Nolan shared how he wanted to portray the incredible story about the battle of Dunkirk, which took place in France. Dunkirk is a true Imax film, said Nolan, allowing audiences to feel as if they are physically there.

Film synopsis:

In May 1940, Germany advanced into France, trapping Allied troops on the beaches of Dunkirk. Under air and ground cover from British and French forces, troops were slowly and methodically evacuated from the beach using every serviceable naval and civilian vessel that could be found. At the end of this heroic mission, 330,000 French, British, Belgian and Dutch soldiers were safely evacuated.

Dunkirk hits theaters July 20th. For more from Nolan, check out the full interview below!
