‘John Wick 2’ Reunites Laurence Fishburne & Keanu Reeves

Fishburne says it’s fun playing a gangster in his hometown of New York.

BackstageOL’s Dave Morales sat down with actor Laurence Fishburne in this backstage interview to talk about his role in John Wick: Chapter 2.

Fishburne, who portrays a ruthless crime lord dubbed The Bowery King, stars alongside Common, Ruby Rose and reunites with former Matrix co-star Keanu Reeves.

The actor discussed how he really wanted to be a part of the action sequel after seeing the first film. He explained, “I was with Keanu and I was telling him how much I liked the first movie… and I was like, ‘You really need to try and help me get involved with the second one… because the first one was so great.’”

As for what he likes most about acting, Fishburne said, “I love acting because – unlike the other arts – it’s very difficult to capture and describe because it’s as diverse as human beings are.”

He continued, “With any art form, the people that do it the best make it look easy, when in fact, it really isn’t.”

Retired super-assassin John Wick’s plans to resume a quiet civilian life are cut short when Italian gangster Santino D’Antonio shows up on his doorstep with a gold marker, compelling him to repay past favors. Ordered by Winston, kingpin of secret assassin society The Continental, to respect the organization’s ancient code, Wick reluctantly accepts the assignment to travel to Rome to take out D’Antonio’s sister, the ruthless capo atop the Italian Camorra crime syndicate.

John Wick: Chapter 2 hits theaters Friday, February 10th. Check out the full interview with Fishburne below:
