After 15 years, the Hollywood legend is back to direct Rules Don’t Apply.
BackstageOL’s Dave Morales sat down with stars Lily Collins and Alden Ehrenreich in this backstage interview to talk about their upcoming drama Rules Don’t Apply and working besides director Warren Beatty.
Beatty – who wrote and produced the romantic comedy – also stars the in the film as eccentric billionaire Howard Hughes. When asked about his directing style, Collins explained, “He’s incredibly hands-on. He knows everything about every part of the movie.” She continued, “He created an environment that was very much true to the environment for our characters. He’s very smart, that Warren. He gets it.”
Ehrenreich added, “When he’s acting in the scene, [his directing style] is a little looser. He directs scenes in character. It keeps a kind of flow going, which is very helpful.”
The film’s synopsis:
Small town beauty queen and devout Baptist Marla Mabrey (Lily Collins), under contract to the infamous Howard Hughes, arrives in Los Angeles. At the airport, she meets her driver, Frank Forbes (Alden Ehrenreich), only two weeks on the job and also from a religiously conservative background. Their instant attraction not only puts their religious convictions to the test but also defies Hughes’ number one rule: no employee is allowed to have an intimate relationship with a contract actress.
