Angelina Jolie Feared Unbroken Would Be ‘One of the Great Disasters of Filmmaking History’

In the latest issue of Entertainment Weekly, actress and director Angelina Jolie opened up about her first days on set of her new movie Unbroken.

“If you saw that first shot and my reaction to it, you’d be absolutely sure that this was going to be one of the great disasters of filmmaking history,” Jolie says. “The only thing you could do was laugh at how insane this was all going to be. And then you just had to take a deep breath and figure out what to do next.”

Unbroken is based on Laura Hillenbrand’s novel of the same title, which brings to the big screen Louis Zamperini’s unbelievable and inspiring true story about the resilient power of the human spirit. Irish actor Jack O’Connell stars in the film as the Olympian and war hero Zamperini, who recently passed away from pneumonia.

Zamperini survived 47 days on a raft after a near-fatal plane crash in WWII before being captured as a POW by Japanese forces.

“I didn’t know what I was up against when I was first getting into it,” the Oscar winner added. “I had never done anything like it. I was up for the challenge, but I had so much to learn.”

Co-starring in the upcoming film are Domhnall Gleeson, Garrett Hedlund, Finn Wittrock, John Magaro, Alex Russell and Miyavi. Unbroken will debut in theaters on December 25, 2014. Check out the trailer below!
