Ben Affleck No Longer Directing ‘Batman’

It is being reported that Ben Affleck is not directing the new Batman movie for Warner Bros.

There had been early reports that Affleck would not direct the film until the script was just right. As the latest actor to dawn the cape and cowl as the Dark Knight, Ben Affleck was one of the highlights of Zack Snyder’s misguided Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. But it would seem the critical reception of that movie and his latest directorial effort, Live By Night, finds the multi-hyphenate thespian (writer, producer, actor, director) looking to take a step back from directing and put it in the hands of another.

Early word is that Warner Bros. is looking at Captain Fantastic‘s Matt Ross to fill that void. If not him, a short list of other filmmakers. Ben Affleck remains on board as Bruce Wayne/Batman.

Here is what Affleck had to say about stepping away from the director’s chair.

“There are certain characters who hold a special place in the hearts of millions. Performing this role demands focus, passion and the very best performance I can give. It has become clear that I cannot do both jobs to the level they require. Together with the studio, I have decided to find a partner in a director who will collaborate with me on this massive film. I am still in this, and we are making it, but we are currently looking for a director. I remain extremely committed to this project, and look forward to bringing this to life for fans around the world.”
