Box Office Preview: ‘Magnificent Seven’ Earns $1.75M Thursday, Eyeing No. 1

Sony and MGM’s The Magnificent Seven is on track to earn around $30-$40 million in its debut weekend, according to predictions.

On Thursday night, the star-studded remake of the 1960 classic Western took in $1.75 million from 3,096 locations. Starring Denzel Washington, Chris Pratt, Ethan Hawke, Vincent D’Onofrio, Byung-hun Lee and Manuel Garcia-Rulfo – the Antoine Fuqua- directed film follows seven men who team up to protect a small town. The film currently has a 63 percent “fresh” rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

The weekend’s other new wide release is Warner Bros.’ Storks, which is expected to earn between $20 million and $30 million. On Rotten Tomatoes, the animated film holds a 58 percent “fresh” score from critics.

Storks, directed by Nicholas Stoller and Doug Sweetland, is set in a world where storks have moved on from delivering babies. However, when an order for a baby appears, the best delivery stork must scramble to make sure the baby makes it home.

The voice cast includes Andy Samberg, Katie Crown, Kelsey Grammer, Keegan-Michael Key, Jordan Peele, Jennifer Aniston, Ty Burrell and Danny Trejo.
