Disney Developing Live-Action ‘Mulan’

Let’s get down to business! Following the recent success of Cinderella, Disney has already announced yet another princess on their list to get the live-action treatment –Mulan.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, who exclusively reported the news, the film will be written by Elizabeth Martin and Lauren Hynek and produced by Chris Bender and J.C. Spink (We’re the Millers). The 1998 animated feature tells the story of a young woman, named Hua Mulan, who masquerades herself as a man to go to war in her father’s place. It grossed over $304.3 million worldwide and earned multiple Golden Globe and Academy Award nominations.

Disney has been on a roll with these live-action adaptations, that with the massive success of Alice in Wonderland (2010), Snow White and the Huntsman (2013), Maleficent (2014), and Cinderella (2015), it is no surprise that the studio is planning even more re-imagined classics.

In 2016, Disney has plans to release a new version of The Jungle Book, with Jon Favreau as the director, and the sequel to Alice in Wonderland.

The live-action retelling of Beauty and the Beast, starring Emma Watson (as Belle), Dan Stevens (as The Beast), Luke Evans (as Gaston) and Emma Thompson (as Mrs. Potts), will be directed by Bill Condon and released March 17th, 2017. Also in the works is the live-action version of Dumbo, which will be helmed by Tim Burton.
