‘Kingsman: The Golden Circle’ Teaser Introduces Statesman, More Surprises

Flashback to Valentine’s Day weekend 2015. You had Fifty Shades of Grey opening in theaters. On the other end of the spectrum was Kingsman: The Secret Service. Two polar opposite films that made it okay for ladies to spend time with Christian Grey for a few hours, while men got their action fix. The Secret Service would become a $400 million hit worldwide and a sequel was greenlit.

Matthew Vaughn, whose resume includes the likes of Stardust, X-Men: First Class, and Kick-Ass, has never directed a sequel and would only do one if he thought there was a good enough story.

And now he has with Kingsman: The Golden Circle.

20th Century Fox has dropped the first teaser to what promises to be an over-the-top sequel with Eggsy (Taron Egerton) and his supervisor Merlin (Mark Strong) heading to the U.S. to join forces with the “Statesman,” the American counterpart to the Kingsman agency, after Kinsgman headquarters is destroyed at the hands of the villainous Poppy (Julianne Moore).

Kingsman: The Golden Circle looks to be a star-studded sequel as the cast includes Channing Tatum, Halle Berry, Jeff Bridges, and Sir Elton John! Oh, and one more surprise guest. Watch the trailer and you’ll see. I don’t know how they will top the bloody church shootout from Kingsman but if this teaser is any indication I hope whatever the sequence is it is set to Frank Sinatra’s “My Way.”

Kingsman: The Golden Circle hits theaters September 22, 2017.
