It’s that time again! Time to look back at the best (at least my version of the best!) in film in the year 2014.
Part one, as I’ve done before, is numbers ten to six, tomorrow I’ll be posting numbers five through one.
Let’s begin!
10. The Hundred-Foot Journey
This film is just a fun movie to watch. The cast is stellar and really comes off as if they truly enjoyed working together.
When the book arrived earlier in the year, I handed it off to my mom who REALLY enjoyed reading the Richard C. Morais novel.
One word of advice, if you haven’t seen this yet, don’t watch on an empty stomach- the dishes look AMAZING!
9. Big Hero 6
One of my favorite film categories is animation. Always has been. When Disney announced this project, I was really looking forward to it. This movie did not disappoint. Who wouldn’t want Baymax as your best bud? I hope a sequel is in the works!
8. American Sniper
The first of the “late entries” in my top 10. Bradley Cooper plays Navy SEAL Chris Kyle. The movie is based on the autobiography of the same name. Cooper delivers a believable performance of a soldier trying to adjust to his life back home while struggling to cope with his time served in Iraq.
7. The Grand Budapest Hotel
Wes Anderson is one of my favorite directors. In fact, Moonrise Kingdom was my number one back in 2012. Anderson’s films are always quirky with odd characters and fun to follow plot lines. This is now another one of my favorite Wes Anderson films. Some of Anderson’s actors from previous films are here- Edward Norton, Owen Wilson, Jason Schwartzman, Bill Murray and Tilda Swinton. In fact, the entire cast is stellar. This another one of those “fun movies to watch.”
6. Boyhood
This is a really good film. Why did I place it at number six? While it is a really good film, when I stacked it up against my top five, I just couldn’t place it higher. This movie probably wins my personal award for Best Cinematic Achievement. Why? Well, when you think about what it means to dedicate 12 years to a project- filming, working with a cast- it really is something. The final version is a great story about life.
