‘The Departed’ TV Series Being Developed by Amazon

The Oscar-winning film The Departed is being rebooted for the small screen.

A TV version of Martin Scorsese’s 2006 crime drama is currently in the works at Amazon. The film, which starred Leonardo DiCaprio, Matt Damon, Jack Nicholson, and Mark Wahlberg, took place in Boston and focused on the Irish mob. The new series will take place in Chicago and will involve a young cop infiltrating a Latino gang, while the gang plants one of their own as a mole in the police department. The series will also be based on the Hong Kong film Internal Affairs, which also inspired The Departed film.

The show is being produced by Amazon Studios, Vertigo Entertainment, Initial Entertainment Group and Plan B Entertainment in association with Warner Bros TV. Writer Jason Richman (Detroit 1-8-7) is penning the pilot and will executive produce along with Roy Lee, Michael Connolly, Graham King, Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner, Sarah Esberg, Tripp Vinson, Doug Davison and Gianni Nunnari.

The Departed marks Amazon’s second movie to TV series adaptation. Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan is also in the works and John Krasinski is set to play the title character.
