2015 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Inductees Announced

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has officially revealed the eight inductees for 2015.

The list for the 2015 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame include Lou Reed, Ringo Starr, Bill Withers, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, Green Day, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble, Paul Butterfield Blues Band, and The “5” Royales.

The 1950s R&B group The “5” Royales will receive the Early Influence Award and Ringo Starr will receive the Award For Musical Excellence. Starr is not new to the Rock and Roll Hall of fame, he was inducted as part of The Beatles in 1988. Now all four Beatles are in the Hall as solo artist and together as a band.

“This means recognition to me,” Ringo said. “Finally, the four of us are in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame even though we were the biggest pop group in the land,” Ringo added about being an inductee for the 2015 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Green Day is being inducted into the Rock and Roll institution in their first year of eligibility. Green Day front man Billie Joe Armstrong responded to the news by saying, “We’re in incredible company and I’m still trying to make sense of this. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has always held something special for me because my heroes were in there. This is a great time for us to sort of reflect and look back with gratitude.” Green Day released their first EP, 1,000 Hours, in 1989.

Lou Reed will be honored at the event for his solo work after passing away in October 2013.  He was inducted in 1996 as a member of the Velvet Underground.

Joan Jett and the Blackhearts are known for their iconic song “I Love Rock and Roll”. Jett said it would be a lot of fun to play that song. “It would speak to what a lot of us have dedicated our lives to, this music called rock & roll. I think it would be appropriate,” Jett added.

The 30th annual induction ceremony will be held at Cleveland’s Public Hall on April 18th, 2015. Tickets will go on sale to the general public starting on Thursday.
