Family Comments on Upcoming ‘Selena’ Hologram

Twenty years after her death, Selena may be reborn again as a hologram.

In an announcement on her official Facebook fan page, a technology company called Acrovirt is currently developing “a walking, talking, singing, and dancing, digital embodiment of iconic singer, Selena.” The hologram version of Selena may even produce new music, collaborate with other artists, and go out on tour as soon as 2018.

Selena’s sister Suzette confirmed the news to Billboard and shared her feelings about the hologram.

“By no means is this something that’s creepy or weird,” she said. “We think it’s something amazing. A lot of the new fans that did not get to experience what Selena was about hopefully will be able to get a sense of her with this new technology that’s going to be coming out.”

“It’s not about replacing Selena in any shape, way or form,” Suzette added. “It’s just something to help her legacy continue growing.”

Acrovirt approached the family about creating a Selena hologram last year. After many meetings, the family agreed to the project, which is called Selena The One.

“Using detailed individual personalized functions spanning the mind, brain and body, the individual’s Digitized Human Essence will autonomously learn and react on behalf of its human counterpart’s,” the company stated.

However, in order for the project to be completed, Acrovirt will be looking to crowdfund the project via Indiegogo. According to SelenaTheOne.com, the campaign will begin April 16. The company hopes to raise $500,000.
