Madame Tussauds Hollywood Unveils Selena Wax Figure

On Tuesday, Madame Tussauds Hollywood unveiled their latest wax figure, which was inspired by the Queen of Tejano Music, Selena Quintanilla.

“On behalf of our family we would like to express a huge amount of gratitude to Madame Tussauds in creating such an amazing life-like wax figure of our beloved Selena,” said Selena’s sister, Suzette Quintanilla, in a statement. “This is yet another step in making sure that her legacy lives on and that her fans new and old can appreciate her as a person, an artist and one whom we can all identify with.”

The museum stated that their team of sculptors and artists traveled to Corpus Christi, Texas to visit The Selena Museum. They worked closely with Selena’s family to capture the singer’s iconic pose, hairstyle, makeup, wardrobe and more.

At the unveiling, Suzette shared the story behind the design of her sister’s famous bustier, recreated on the wax figure. “She was stoning her things before the show during the day [of the performance]. She thought she had ordered enough stones but she clearly didn’t. She freaked out and she didn’t know what she was going to do. And this is what happened. She goes ‘I’ll work with it, I’ll create something’ and this is the look that came out of it.”

Selena’s widower, Chris Perez, was also amazed at Madame Tussaud’s work. “It was literally a breathtaking experience, kind of took our breath away to be in the room with the figure.”

Tuesday marked the 21st anniversary of the late superstar’s fifth and final studio album, Dreaming of You.
