Dustin Brown Upsets Rafael Nadal at Wimbledon

This year’s Wimbledon was definitely a memorable one, as the underdog took the win. On Thursday, Rafael Nadal (29) from Spain currently ranked No. 10 was defeated by Dustin Brown (30) the Jamaican/German who is ranked No. 102. This was a surprising and upsetting loss for Nadal as it is now the two-time Wimbledon Champion’s fourth loss to a player ranked in the three digits. Nadal has not one at Wimbledon since 2011.

Dustin Brown accredited his win against Nadal to his having more experience playing on a grass turf and being able to keep a steady rhythm and a positive attitude. “It’s easy for me to play my game against someone like him because I have nothing to lose. I just keep saying, Dustin just try to concentrate. Even if you lose this, no one is going to say anything bad.”

According to Sky Sports the stats speak for themselves. Brown took the win in the second round match in four sets: 7-5, 3-6, 6-4, and 6-4.   Brown often called “Dreddy” because of his dreadlocks was definitely in his zone.

The grass surface is Dustin’s favorite turf, however not Nadal’s, which was probably why Nadal was not able to develop a rhythm. This is actually the second time Brown has won against Nadal. The first being last year in Halle grass turf as well. This is a big win for the little guy supporters everywhere and especially Brown as he racked up over $40,000 in prize money.
