Laverne Cox To Star In ‘Rocky Horror’ TV Remake

Netflix’s Orange Is The New Black actress Laverne Cox will star in Fox’s TV remake of The Rocky Horror Picture Show as Dr. Frank-N-Furter.

“I am so excited to be a part of #RockHorror legacy. #DontDreamItBeIt,” Cox tweeted on Wednesday (October 21st). Cox, who is best known for her role as transgender inmate Sophia Burset on OITNB, made history when she became the first transgender actress to receive an Emmy nomination.

In the 1975 original film, actor Tim Curry played the famous role of the cross-dressing mad scientist. The TV reboot is said to be a re-imagination of the cult classic.

The Rocky Horror Picture Show follows sweethearts Janet Weiss and Brad Majors, who stumble upon Dr. Frank-N-Furter’s bizarre abode. Frank-N-Furter, a sexually ambiguous flirtatious alien mad-scientist, is holding an annual, Transylvanian science convention to showcase the birth of Rocky Horror – a fit, attractive man created solely to fulfill Frank’s desires,” the press release illustrated.

Celebrating Rocky Horror’s 40th anniversary, the two-hour television event will be directed, choreographed and executive produced by High School Musical’s Kenny Ortega. Gail Berman is on board as producer, with Lou Adler as executive producer, as well.

Rocky Horror Picture Show will air in fall 2016 on Fox.
