Rumor: ‘Xena: Warrior Princess’ TV Reboot in the Works

It looks like there might be yet another television series reboot in the works.

NBC reportedly is looking to bring back Xena: Warrior Princess, an action series which aired from 1995-2001 that starred Lucy Lawless in the title role and Renee O’Connor as her friend Gabrielle.

The project is in its early stages, and the new series would be a “modern reboot,” according to the Hollywood Reporter. The original executive producers Rob Tapert and Sam Raimi are rumored to be involved with the revival. The studio is currently looking for a writer for the show.

Sources also report that the main character will be a combination of Lawless and Katniss Everdeen of The Hunger Games.

It is currently unknown if Lawless will be a part of it. However, Lawless took to Twitter Monday to address the report and stated the reboot was only a rumor:

Earlier this month, Lawless expressed interest in a reboot of the series at San Diego Comic-Con. “I’ve been pitching [a two-hour movie], actually,” she told reporters. “The fans really do want that, and I’ve met some people who’ve crowdfunded some things, and I’m just like, ‘Why don’t we just do that?’ … It’s still about who owns the rights to Xena. But it would still be cool to do it again with Renée [O’Connor], me, Ted [Raimi] and Bruce. It’d be a fun little gig, but what that is, I don’t really know.”
