Season Eight of ‘Game of Thrones’ To Be The Last

With the season finale of Game of Thrones , fans wonder how the show will continue as the series of books is yet to be completed. Author George RR Martin is hard at work with the sixth book, Winds of Winter, which will hopefully be showcased in season six of the popular HBO show.

“Winter is coming” and sooner rather than later, viewers will have to watch the show before reading the A Song of Ice and Fire books. Its very uncommon to see the show before we see the source material its based on, and according to EW things are looking to speed up rather than slow down for the show.

Michael Lombardo, HBO’s programming president, spoke to the Television Critics Association saying, “Seven-seasons-and-out has never been the internal conversation…The question is: How much beyond seven are we going to do? Obviously we’re shooting six now, hopefully discussing seven. Showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss feel like there’s two more years after six. I would always love for them to change their minds, but that’s what we’re looking at right now.”

Three more seasons of GOT is a good sign for fans and a good sign for HBO.

If David Benioff and Dan Weiss’ plan to continue until its eight season, this will make Game of Thrones one of the highest syndicated HBO shows. The only other HBO show to reach eight seasons is the TV comedy turned film Entourage. While the show was successful, it never reached pop culture status like GOT.

Lombardo also spoke about the possibility of taking The Walking Dead route and creating a spin-off. “I would be open to anything that Dan and David wanted to do—about Game of Thrones, or any subject matter…It really would depend fully on what they wanted to do. I think you’re right, there’s enormous storytelling to be mined in a prequel, if George and Dan and David decide they want to tackle that. At this point, all the focus is on the next few years of the show. We haven’t had any conversations about that at this point.”

A spin-off in the land of Westeros does sound interesting, and if it were to happen Benioff and Weiss have plenty of George RR Martin source material to use. Fans are left at a cliffhanger of sorts, I guess will have to wait and see what happens next.
