Snowmobiler Caleb Moore Dies After Horrific X Games Crash

Four-time Winter X Games Medalist Caleb Moore has passed away due to injuries sustained from a snowmobile accident on Thursday, January 24th in Aspen, Co.

Last week the 25-year-old Winter X Games competitor was attempting a backflip during a televised freestyle event when his snowmobile caught the lip of the landing ramp and sent Moore flying over the handlebars.  Moore landed directly on his face before his snowmobile ran over him.

After spending a significant time on the ground, Moore was able to limp off the track with help and was rushed to a nearby hospital to treat a possible concussion.  At the hospital he began to develop bleeding around his heart and flown to a hospital in Grand Junction for treatment.  Moore’s family has confirmed that there were complications that involved the brain.

ESPN released a statement on the incident saying, “We’ve worked closely on safety issues with athletes, course designers and other experts for each of the 18 years of X Games. Still, when the world’s best compete at the highest level in any sport, risks remain.”

X Game officials said they will remember Moore “for his natural passion for life and his deep love for his family and friends.”
