TV Land Pulls ‘Dukes of Hazzard’ Reruns

TV Land, which used to air two episodes of Dukes of Hazzard per day, has removed the show from its lineup.

The channel has not commented on why it pulled it from the schedule. Many suspect it is due the controversy surrounding the Confederate flag after the recent shootings at Emanuel AME Church in Charleston, South Carolina. The flag is painted on the Dodge Charger known as the General Lee in the television series.

Last week, Warner Bros. announced it would no longer sell products that have the Confederate flag on it, including Dukes of Hazzard merchandise that have the flag on it.

Dukes of Hazzard actor Ben Jones took to Facebook last week to defend the show’s use of the flag. “I think all of Hazzard Nation understands that the Confederate Battle flag is the symbol that represents the indomitable spirit of independence which keeps us ‘makin’ our way the only way we know how,” he wrote.

“Our beloved symbol is now being attacked in a wave of political correctness that is unprecedented in our nation of free speech and free expression,” he added.
