Funimation Joins Crunchyroll Creating World’s Largest Anime Service

In a blog post, Crunchyroll announced that starting today all Funimation content would be moving to the Crunchyroll platform. This includes Funimation’s subsidiary Wakanim as well as Crunchyroll’s VRV service to create the world’s largest anime library.

This means fans will get all of Funimation’s exclusive movies, shows, and dubbed versions of shows added to the Crunchyroll library. That’s more than 1,600 hours of anime content being added to the Crunchyroll library.

In celebration of the merger, Crunchyroll is now offering all current Funimation, Wakanim, and VRV subscribers a special deal for 60 days of Crunchyroll Premium for free.  A unique link will be emailed to all qualified subscribers in the next few days.

Sony acquired Crunchyroll for $1.175 billion last August and then announced that a single subscription service would be created.

CEO of Crunchyroll, Colin Decker said:

“When we brought Funimation and Crunchyroll together last year, our top priority was to put the fans first. Unifying all of our brands and services under the Crunchyroll brand globally enables us to offer more value than ever before as we combine subs, dubs, simulcasts, library, music, movies, and manga into one subscription.”

What to Expect

While Crunchyroll exceeded in its exclusive show quality, Funimation cornered the market on dubbed versions of popular shows.

Notable dubs coming to the Crunchyroll platform are My Hero Academia, Fire Force, Dr. Stone, and Tokyo Ghoul.  Crunchyroll posted a list of all Funimation titles now available on Crunchyroll, with more to come.

Funimation and Crunchyroll have posted FAQ pages for their subscribers to help with the transition.

Pricing for Crunchyroll will remain unchanged, prices range from $7.99 a month at the Fan tier, $9.99 a month at the Mega Fan tier, and $14.99 a month at the Ultimate Fan tier.
