Willie Garson, remembered best for his role as Stanford Blatch on Sex and the City has passed away at 57. Via The Hollywood Reporter, Garson passed away after a long battle with cancer.
Mourning Willie Garson
His son Nathen Garson shared the tragic news of his father’s passing on Instagram. The post read: “Rest In Peace and I’m so glad you got to share all your adventures with me and were able to accomplish so much. I’m so proud of you. I will always love you, but I think it’s time for you to go on an adventure of your own. You’ll always be with me. Love you more than you will ever know and I’m glad you can be at peace now. You always were the toughest and funniest and smartest person I’ve known. I’m glad you shared your love with me. I’ll never forget it or lose it.”
Representatives from HBO and HBO Max paid tribute to the legendary actor. “Willie Garson was in life, as on screen, a devoted friend and a bright light for everyone in his universe. He created one of the most beloved characters from the HBO pantheon and was a member of our family for nearly twenty-five years. We are deeply saddened to learn of his passing and extend our sincere condolences to his family and loved ones.”
Willie Garson’s Career
In the 80s and 90s, Garson booked small roles in multiple shows. Some of those include Mr. Belvedere, Family Ties, Coach, Quantum Leap, Monk, Ally McBeal, Party of Five and Friends. However, he made a breakthrough in 1996 with his role as Henry Coffield in NYPD Blue. After that he starred in his most prominent role as the beloved Stanford Blatch in Sex and the City in 1998. He played the fashionable best friend to Carrie Bradshaw, played by Sarah Jessica Parker. Additionally, the show included two spin-off films where he reprised his role. Garson was also currently shooting the reboot of Sex and the City called And Just Like That…

Garson continued his career with television performances in White Collar (2009-2014) and John from Cincinnati. He also featured in Whole Way Down, Hawaii Five-O and most recently in Supergirl (2019-2020). Moreover, he scored roles on the big screen as well. Some of his work includes roles in Troop Beverly Hills, Soapdish, Groundhog Day, Black Sheep, Things To Do In Denver When You’re Dead, Kingpin, Being John Malkovich, Just Like Heaven, There’s Something About Mary and The Polka King. He most recently did voice work for Big Mouth as well.
