Alec Baldwin Arrested in New York City

Oscar-and-Tony-nominated actor Alec Baldwin was arrested in New York City on Tuesday morning, May 13, after riding his bike the wrong way down Fifth Avenue and 16th street. The former “30 Rock” star was stopped and asked to show identification, but refused and became belligerent, prompting the officers to handcuff him and take him, and his bicycle, to a nearby precinct.

“He had no ID, refused to [identify] himself, became belligerent, cursing and yelling. He was then placed in handcuffs,” said a spokesperson for the NYPD, describing the scene. A witness said that Baldwin “went ballistic on the cops, screaming at them” as they took him into custody.

Following the incident, the 56-year-old actor, who is known for his incendiary temper, went on a rant via Twitter, writing, “Officer Moreno, badge number 23388, arrested me and handcuffed me for going the wrong way on Fifth Ave … Meanwhile, photographers outside my home ONCE AGAIN terrified my daughter and nearly hit her with a camera. The police did nothing.”

The notoriously hotheaded actor followed with a tweet slamming the city of New York. “New York City is a mismanaged carnival of stupidity that is desperate for revenue and anxious to criminalize behavior once thought benign,” he wrote bitterly.

Baldwin was issued two summonses, one for disorderly conduct and one for the traffic violation, and was then released. He is scheduled to appear in Manhattan Criminal Court on the disorderly conduct summons July 24.
