Phillip Seymour Hoffman Gets Help for Heroin Addiction

Academy Award winner Phillip Seymour Hoffman checked himself into rehab last month for a heroin habit. TMZ reported, “Hoffman had struggled with substance abuse in the past but kicked the habit for 23 years.” His unfortunate relapse began with prescription pills and escalated to snorting heroin.

Hoffman won an Oscar for Best Actor for his role in 2006’s Capote.  A spokesperson for the actor told Fox News, “the heroin use only lasted a week or so and he quickly realized he needed help, so he checked himself into a detox facility on the East Coast.”

On  Tuesday, May 14 Hoffman entered a 10-day treatment program.  He told told TMZ that he credits “a great group of friends and family” for encouraging him to seek help.

The 45-year-old actor checked himself out of rehab on May 24 and is now back to work filming a movie in Europe.
