‘Star Trek’ Actor Anton Yelchin Dies at Age 27

Actor Anton Yelchin, known for his role as Pavel Chekov in 2009’s Star Trek and 2013’s Star Trek Into Darkness, has passed away at age 27.

“Actor Anton Yelchin was killed in a fatal traffic collision early this morning,” his publicist Jennifer Allen said in a statement. “His family requests you respect their privacy at this time.”

Yelchin was found pinned between his car and a brick mailbox at his house in San Fernando Valley, according to TMZ. His car was reportedly still running and was in neutral when police arrived at the scene. It is unknown why Yelchin had gotten out of his car.

Yelchin began his career in television, with guest starring roles in shows such as ER, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Judging Amy, Without a Trace, and Law & Order: Criminal Intent. In addition to Star Trek, he was also known for his film roles in 2006’s Alpha Dog, 2007’s Charlie Bartlett, and 2009’s Terminator Salvation. He was last seen earlier this year in the horror film Green Room.

The actor will posthumously be seen in the next installment of the Star Trek series, Star Trek Beyond, which hits theaters this summer on July 22.
