Disney+ Day: Marvel’s Upcoming Shows

Disney+ Day is here!

Disney+ Day is finally here with a 2021 Disney+ Day Special, featuring Marvel Studios front and center with five new shows and a series of first looks at previously announced titles.

Out of the brand-new lineup, Marvel announced Agatha: House of Harkness, Echo, Marvel Zombies, Spider-Man: Freshman Year and X-MEN ’97. The studio also released new content for the following upcoming titles: Hawkeye, I Am Groot, Ironheart, Moon Knight, Ms. Marvel, Secret Invasion and She-Hulk.

Moon Knight

Marvel released a teaser of Moon Knight, originally announced in 2019. The eerie and mysterious clip shows the first scenes of Oscar Isaac as Marc Spector.

Moon Knight is a new globetrotting action-adventure series featuring a complex vigilante who suffers from dissociative identity disorder. The multiple identities who live inside him find themselves thrust into a deadly war of the gods against the backdrop of modern and ancient Egypt. Moon Knight is directed by Mohamed Diab and is coming to Disney+ in 2022.

Hawkeye

After releasing the official trailer in September, Marvel gave fans another sneak peek in the form of a chase scene on Disney+ of the upcoming series Hawkeye. The show is set in post-Blip New York City, where former Avenger Clint Barton aka Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) has a seemingly simple mission: get back to his family for Christmas. But when a threat from his past shows up, Hawkeye reluctantly teams up with Kate Bishop (Hailee Steinfeld), a 22-year-old skilled archer and his biggest fan, to unravel a criminal conspiracy.

Hawkeye will also introduce Alaqua Cox as Maya Lopez, who will later star in her own series Echo.

She-Hulk

Marvel fans got a couple of looks at Tatiana Maslany starring as superhuman lawyer Jennifer Walters in She-Hulk. The series, dropping on Disney+ in 2022, will have a different approach than usual, given it is being advertised as a comedy instead of the usual action label. Old MCU favorites Mark Ruffalo and Tim Roth are returning to reprise their roles of Hulk and the Abomination. Executive Producer Jessica Gao will write the show, with Executive Producers Kat Coiro and Anu Valia taking care of the directing.

Ms. Marvel

Another female superhero joins the MCU as Marvel released the first scenes of Ms. Marvel. The show introduces viewers to Kamala, a 16-year old Pakistani American from Jersey City. An aspiring artist, an avid gamer, and a voracious fan-fiction scribe, she is a huge fan of the Avengers — and one in particular, Captain Marvel. But Kamala has always struggled to find her place in the world — that is until she gets super powers like the heroes she’s always looked up to. Iman Vellani stars as Kamala Khan aka Ms. Marvel. Episodes are directed by Executive Producers Adil El Arbi & Bilall Fallah, Meera Menon, and Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy.

Agatha: House of Harkness

Wandavision‘s Emmy nominee Kathryn Hahn returns as Agatha Harkness in her spinoff series Agatha: House of Harkness. Jac Schaefer is back as head writer and executive producer to dive deeper into Wanda Maximoff’s nosy neighbor and powerful witch.

Secret Invasion

Samuel L. Jackson never grows tired of playing Nick Fury, this time without his iconic eyepatch in Secret Invasion. Announced in 2020, the show also counts on Ben Mendelsohn back as the Skrull Talos. The series will tell the story of the duo teaming up to expose a group of undercover Skrulls living on Earth.

Marvel Animation adds three new shows

Riding off the success of What If…?, Marvel Animation renewed the show for a second season and added three new animated shows to the slate of upcoming titles. While I Am Groot was announced in 2020, fans got a new look before hearing that Marvel Zombies, Spider-Man: Freshman Year and X-MEN ’97 are also coming to Disney+.

Marvel Zombies will tell the story of a new group of superheroes fighting an unstoppable zombie outbreak. Bryan Andrews will be the director, Zeb Wells will serve as the writer and the two will executive produce the show together.

Spider-Man: Freshman Year will focus on Peter Parker and his journey to become Spider-Man in a unique style that cherishes the character’s comic book history. Jeff Trammel will serve as writer and executive producer.

X-MEN ’97 is the revival of the hit 90s show X-MEN: The Animated Series. The original voice cast starring Cal Dodd, Lenore Zann, George Buza, Adrian Hough and Christopher Britton is back to give 90s kids a feeling of nostalgia. Beau DeMayo will be the show’s writer and executive producer, arriving on Disney+ in 2023.
