‘It Takes Two’ Sells 5 Million Copies

After winning Game of the Year at last year’s Game Awards, the EA hit ‘It Takes Two’ adds another accolade to its list. In less than a year the popular co-op game has sold 5 million copies.

Last October Hazelight Studios the developers behind the popular game reported sales numbers at 3 million sold.  However, sales were likely boosted by holiday sales and the game being featured on Xbox Game Pass since November of last year.

The team at Hazelight Studios took to Twitter to share the news saying “Our team is absolutely stunned just thinking about how many players have now enjoyed our game!”

The game’s director Josef Fares commented on the celebrator tweet saying “This is way beyond expectation.”  This was the second big announcement for the studio last week as reports have the game being adapted for film.

From the Loading Screen to the Big Screen

Last week Variety reported that ‘It Takes Two’ developers Hazelight Studios has partnered with dj2 Entertainment to adapt for film.

“Creating the world and story in ‘It Takes Two’ was so much fun for me and the team,” said the creative director and Hazelight founder Josef Fares.

“Since it has a strong narrative with many crazy characters and just as crazy c0-op action moments, the potential is huge for a great adaption to film or television.”

The announcement may come as a surprise to fans who remember Fares’s now-infamous “F@%k the Oscars” rant at the 2017 Game Awards (pictured below).

“dj2 is honored to partner with Josef, Oskar (Hazelight studio manager Oskar Wolontis), and the incredible team at Hazelight Studios on the linear media adaptation of It Takes Two,” said dj2 founder and CEO Dmitri M. Johnson.

“Just like the rest of the gaming world, we fell head-over-heels in love with Cody, May, Rose, Dr. Hakim, and the imaginative fantasy universe Hazelight have created, and can’t wait to bring these characters (and the world) to live on the big and small screen.”

Pat Casey and Josh Miller, the screenwriting team behind the Sonic the Hedgehog movie have been tapped to adapt the project.
