Playstation 4 Can Now Read 3D Blu-rays

Since the launch of Sony’s PlayStation 4 back in November 2013, the console could only support the Blu-ray playback feature and lacked the ability to support 3D Blu-rays. Sony has now announced through their official PlayStation Twitter handle that it’s latest update can now support 3D playback.

A week after they released their 1.74 system software update, Sony released the 1.75 PS4 system software update on Tuesday, which adds 3D Blu-ray playback support making the PS4 console the ultimate multimedia & gaming machine. Sony is currently a step ahead of Microsoft’s XBOX One since Microsoft won’t release their 3D Blu-ray support update until August.

The Sony PlayStation 3 was the first gaming console to support the Blu-ray playback feature, and now the 4th generation console supports both Blu-ray and 3D Blu-ray discs. For comparison, the Xbox One is the first time a XBOX gaming console supports Blu-ray playback, a full generation behind Sony’s Playstation 3.

Microsoft has still yet to announce the release date of their software update which will support 3D Blu-ray playback on the Xbox One.
