Xbox Design Lab returns for Next-Gen Controllers

Today during the Xbox Games Showcase: Extended, Microsoft announced the return of the Xbox Design Lab. The program originally launched in 2016 during the Xbox One generation. It was then put on hold last October ahead of the Xbox Series X release.

The Xbox Design Lab service now allows Xbox owners to create customized controllers for the Xbox Series X.  Priced at $69.99 the controllers will be available in the United States, Canada, and most European countries.

The service offers 18 different color options allowing players to mix and match millions of color combinations.  Three new colors have been added to the service: Shock Blue, Pulse Red, and Electric Volt.

James Hunter, Xbox’s Senior Director of Strategy & Business stated in a news release on the Xbox website that:

“Most of our color options are made with plastics containing 30% post-consumer recycled (PCR) materials by weight. These color options will reduce the amount of waste plastic that ends up in landfills and ensure we are all doing our part to take care of the planet. We believe this work is critical and will continue to increase the amount of PCR that we use in our products.”

Xbox Design Lab lets players customize almost every exterior component of the controller. This includes the body, triggers, ABXY, back case, bumpers, D-pad, thumbsticks, view, and Menu and Share buttons.

For an additional $9.99 players can also get their controller laser engraved. Players can add their Gamertags or custom messages up to 16 characters long.

Microsoft states that the estimated delivery time for a controller is 14 business days after placing an order.

Sadly though, Xbox fans are still unable to create customized Xbox Elite controllers.
