Actor John Boyega Talks ‘Detroit’ & ‘Star Wars’

“The conversation is going to be very complicated, but I just hope it is in the spirit of moving forward and the spirit of unity.”

BackstageOL’s Dave Morales sat down with actor John Boyega in this backstage interview to talk about Kathryn Bigelow’s 1967 riot film, Detroit.

In the interview, Boyega praised Bigelow’s work, explains how eager he was to audition for the role as Dismukes and gives us the poker face on Star Wars.

“I was given a very accurate blueprint as to where my character was at every day, emotionally,” said Boyega about having access to the real-life Melvin Dismukes, whom he was portraying in the film.

The film’s synopsis:

Police and the military spring into action when rioting and civil unrest rocks Detroit during the summer of 1967.

Detroit hits theaters August 4th. For more from Boyega, check out the full interview below!
