Interviews

Backstage with the Cast of Secret Society of Second-Born Royals

“If you must rebel, do so for the right reasons.” Peyton Elizabeth Lee

Disney’s Secret Society of Second Born Royals is a mouthful of a title, but delivers a call to action for the next generation. The majority of the cast are young, multicultural, and represent the diversity around the world. Skylar Astin, Niles Fitch, Isabella Blake-Thomas, Faly Rakotohavana, Olivia Deeble, and Peyton Elizabeth Lee all star in this upcoming Disney+ original movie. Lee plays the main role of “Sam” in the film, and spoke on the importance of representation. Not just in this film, but across the spectrum of cinema.

“It’s so empowering to see people on screen that we can connect and relate to. You feel validated, less alone, and more seen throughout your struggles.” Just look at the cultural impact that Chadwick Boseman and Black Panther left. Cinema for so long had been focused on appealing to a specific demographic. The cultural focus in film has widened. We now have access to stories once easily dismissed, as important, significant, and real.

Lee stars in Secret Society Of Second Born Royals as Sam. A royal rebel who is second in line to the throne of a kingdom. However, she discovers she has super-human abilities and is tasked to join other extraordinary second-born royals to keep the world safe.

Secret Society Of Second Born Royals releases this Friday, September 25th, exclusively on Disney+.
