Ben Affleck Celebrates Difference In ‘The Accountant’

Gavin O’Connor’s upcoming action thriller The Accountant – starring Ben Affleck, Cynthia Anna Kendrick, Addai-Robinson, J.K. Simmons and more – hits theaters this week!

In an interview with BackstageOL, Dave Morales takes viewers backstage to chat with both O’Connor and Affleck to discuss their first thoughts on the story and the theme of autism in the film.

“I was blown away by the script. It was so unique and fresh and exciting,” said Affleck. “I thought, ‘This could be a really special movie’ – but I knew it would require an exceptional, gifted director. I’ve been a fan of Gavin for a long time and so once I heard that he was the one that was doing it, it just made perfect sense to me.”

O’Connor agreed with Affleck, illustrating the depth of the script and storyline, stating, “It’s a beautifully crafted ride. It’s a page-turner. You never know what’s going to happen next.”

The Accountant’s official synopsis:

Christian Wolff (Ben Affleck) is a math savant with more affinity for numbers than people. Behind the cover of a small-town CPA office, he works as a freelance accountant for some of the world’s most dangerous criminal organizations. With the Treasury Department’s Crime Enforcement Division, run by Ray King (J.K. Simmons), starting to close in, Christian takes on a legitimate client: a state-of-the-art robotics company where an accounting clerk (Anna Kendrick) has discovered a discrepancy involving millions of dollars. But as Christian uncooks the books and gets closer to the truth, it is the body count that starts to rise.

The theme of autism is a major part of the film, with the primary character diagnosed to be on the extreme end of the autism spectrum.

“Autism touches lives in different ways – with varying degrees of severity and specialness,” explained Affleck. “Different can be good. Celebrate difference. People who are different are often times actually quite special.”

The Accountant hits theaters on October 14th. Check out the full interview with O’Connor and Affleck below:
