Dev Patel & Hugh Laurie Star in Armando Iannucci’s The Personal History of David Copperfield

David Copperfield is widely known as one of the great novels by the late Charles Dickens. It is also known as one of the biggest coffee table paperweights clocking in at around 620 pages long. The main question is now, how do you keep the story of David Copperfield relevant in society today?

The Personal History of David Copperfield seeks to connect the audience from the themes within the film, to the impact it can create in the modern world. Director Armando Iannucci insists that the story within is not relegated to the years behind, but to now and the years beyond. It seems that recently, people are more drawn to the villains and the tragedy within their stories. Iannucci’s goal is to make positivity,  joy and the overarching theme of friendship, the main foundation of his film.

Dave Morales talked to the stars and acclaimed director about the retelling of the Charles Dickens classic.
