Ice Cube: I Cried When We Filmed Eazy-E’s Death

BackstageOL’s Dave Morales recently sat down with Ice Cube and DJ Yella, the former members of hip-hop group N.W.A., to talk about the upcoming biographical drama film Straight Outta Compton. The film focuses on the origin of N.W.A. in the 1980s and how they forever changed music and pop culture. It follows the tremendous successes of the group as well as their eventual disbandment.

Having to look back and re-visit the events of their lives, DJ Yella and Ice Cube remarked that making the film was a very emotional experience.

“It hit me a few times,” DJ Yella revealed. “[There were] a couple of tears.”

“It was rough shooting a couple of scenes,” Ice Cube stated. “The whole hospital scene with Eazy was rough.”

“There’s a few rough moments in it,” Ice Cube continued. “I don’t want to give away the movie…I dropped a few tears.”

Straight Outta Compton stars O’Shea Jackson, Jr. as Ice Cube, Corey Hawkins as Dr. Dre, Jason Mitchell as Eazy-E, Aldis Hodge as MC Ren, Neil Brown Jr. as DJ Yella, and Paul Giamatti as Jerry Heller. The film hits theaters August 14, 2015.
