J.K. Simmons Reveals Secret To Viral Workout Routine

BackstageOL’s Dave Morales sat down with Oscar-winning actor J.K. Simmons to discuss his role in the upcoming action thriller The Accountant – and his sought after workout routine!

“The script is a real ride,” stated Simmons when discussing the complexity of the film, which was directed by Gavin O’Connor. He continued, “It is such a smart layered, puzzled, of a movie,” so much so that he said he would have to reread the script a few times to keep track of the plot and its characters.

Morales told the star that O’Connor was said to be very adamant on getting Simmons on board for the film.

“When Gavin and I first met, there was a real bond over this project,” explained Simmons. “Gavin is such a passionate guy, that to have him be an advocate for me – my agent was thrilled.”

As for his workout routine – many were curious to know what this 61-year-old actor was doing to be in shape after photos of him flexing hit the Internet.

“Just getting my butt to the gym,” Simmons admitted. “For the last several years, I finally started listening to my wife who said, ‘Just moderation.’” He joked, “Now that those photos are out on the Internet, it’s a whole ego thing.”

Below is the film’s official synopsis, courtesy of Warner Bros.:

Christian Wolff (Ben Affleck) is a math savant with more affinity for numbers than people. Behind the cover of a small-town CPA office, he works as a freelance accountant for some of the world’s most dangerous criminal organizations. With the Treasury Department’s Crime Enforcement Division, run by Ray King (J.K. Simmons), starting to close in, Christian takes on a legitimate client: a state-of-the-art robotics company where an accounting clerk (Anna Kendrick) has discovered a discrepancy involving millions of dollars. But as Christian uncooks the books and gets closer to the truth, it is the body count that starts to rise.

The Accountant hits theaters on October 14th. Check out the full interview with Simmons below:
