Janelle Monae on the Terrifying Thriller ANTEBELLUM

An Accordion In Time

It started as a dream. Actually more like a nightmare. Director Gerard Bush recounted a story in which ancestors reached out from the past to try and communicate to the present and even the future. Calling out for help due to the atrocities being committed against them. Calling out for help to the next generation to ensure these atrocities never happen again. Antebellum is what happens when we reach out to the past to learn from our mistakes and grasp the future to ensure it never happens again.

Lead actress Janelle Monae stars as successful black author who’s life begins to unravel. As the blinders fall from her eyes, she finds herself trapped within a horrifying reality to forces her to confront all aspects of time. Past, present, and future. Monae and the cast spoke highly of the vision from the director. It allowed them to work not only on themselves, but the feelings and frustrations passed down in their history. This film seeks to not only educate movie goers, but to prod them into possibly having those uncomfortable conversations with friends and family members. Antebellum seeks to be the catalyst that steers thoughts, feelings, and emotions toward restoration.

Remember, the definition of insanity is doing the same thing repeatedly…and expecting different results.
