Josh Gad: Working on ‘Pixels’ Was Like Summer Camp

Featuring an ensemble cast that includes Adam Sandler (who also serves as producer), Josh Gad, Kevin James and Peter Dinklage, Sony’s Pixels centers on intergalactic aliens who are using the video games as models for their attacks on planet Earth.

BackstageOL’s Dave Morales caught up with Gad to discuss video games and the new film, asking the star just how much fun was it to work on the gaming comedy where the creations come to life. “It was a blast,” Gad replied.

Gad, who is a huge fan of Pixel’s director Chris Columbus’ work (The Goonies, Gremlins), revealed that being able to be a part of a film that brings his childhood video creations to life – and being in massive chase sequences with them, all while shooting them with laser guns – is just like being a kid again.

“The thing about working on an Adam Sandler film is that it really was like summer camp. Everyday is so fun and everyday comes with an opportunity to just laugh until you cry.”

It seems as if they must have cried very often, as plenty of the shots had to be redone, Gad jokingly said. “I think a lot of the shots we ruined by making each other laugh so much, that we just couldn’t get through the take.”

Pixels releases into theaters this weekend, July 24th, 2015! Watch the full interview below:
