Kevin James on Mall Cop 2: “It’s Easier Doing A Sequel”

BackstageOL’s Dave Morales sat down with Kevin James earlier this month in Miami to discuss his upcoming film Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2.

When asked if he was surprised by the success of the first film, James remarked that he was. “People connected with the character, so we were very excited about that, and we knew we were going to do another one.”

In regards to filming a sequel, James found it easier to do. “You don’t have to introduce the characters pretty much ‘cause you know the characters, and you get right back into it. But we have some cool new characters involved now, and it makes it fun.”

As for what it’s like on set, James commented that it was hard to keep from laughing sometimes, resulting in the crew being upset with him. “We broke a lot. . .I’m pretty good for a long time, and even if it’s a funny scene, I’ll be on point. But if I tip, if I start cracking up, then I’m gone,” James said on breaking. “And you can’t bring me back.”

James also has a small role in the upcoming film Little Boy from executive producers Mark Burnett and Roma Downey in which a young boy is willing to do anything to end World War II to bring his father back home. “They’re great filmmakers and they did a great job about. . .this little boy and his father story,” he stated. “They asked me to be a part of it. I’m a small part but. . . I wanted to jump in there and help out. It was fun to be a part of it.”
