Lucas Hedges Talks ‘Manchester By The Sea’ & Working With Wes Anderson

“It was like entering into candy land,” said Hedges about working on Wes Anderson’s films.

Dave Morales sat down with Manchester by the Sea star Lucas Hedges in this backstage interview to talk about working with acclaimed filmmaker Wes Anderson, the chemistry with his co-stars on set of his new film and more.

The drama – starring Hedges, Casey Affleck, Michelle Williams, and Kyle Chandler – is the latest installment from award-winning writer and director Kenneth Lonergan.

Hedges, who previously worked with Houston native Anderson on Moonrise Kingdom and The Grand Budapest Hotel, explained what it was like to work alongside him. “Wes is a bizarre guy,” he said. “He is essentially every character he’s ever written.”

After auditioning a total of five times, Hedges described how he eventually had to audition with all the actors before he got the role of Patrick.

The film’s synopsis:

After the death of his older brother Joe, Lee Chandler (Casey Affleck) is shocked that Joe has made him sole guardian of his teenage nephew Patrick. Taking leave of his job as a janitor in Boston, Lee reluctantly returns to Manchester-by-the-Sea, the fishing village where his working-class family has lived for generations. There, he is forced to deal with a past that separated him from his wife, Randi (Michelle Williams), and the community where he was born and raised.
