Regina Hall: ‘When the Bough Breaks’ Role Was Draining

Regina Hall, who is known for her roles in comedies such as Scary Movie, Think Like A Man, and Vacation, takes a more dramatic turn in the psychological thriller When the Bough Breaks. In the film, she plays Laura Taylor who is happily married to John (Morris Chestnut). The couple wants to have a baby and hire a young woman named Anna (Jaz Sinclair) to be their surrogate. However, Anna ends up becoming obsessed with John, leaving the couple in an alarming situation.

“It was probably more draining than other ones,” Hall told BackstageOL’s Dave Morales of this role compared to her previous ones. “There’s a lot of elements to that as a woman. There’s the somebody having your baby, there’s a young beautiful woman in your house, pregnant…or on set. I mean, there’s a lot of things that can make things come up for you that make your work easier.”

“Your co-star doesn’t talk to you, yet you’re supposed to be happily married,” Sinclair joking added, referring to Chestnut. “He’s more engaged to talking to Jaz [Sinclair], who he just met and he’s had movies with you…so I had a lot to draw from.”

When the Bough Breaks arrives in theaters September 9th. Watch our interview with Hall and Chestnut below:
