Pattinson Cast As Batman

Wearing the Batman cowl can be an arduous task. To the general public, you will be measured against a previous actor wearing the cape.

Will Ben Affleck be as good as Christian Bale?

Will Christian Bale be as good as Michael Keaton?

The questions continue all the way back to one of the first people to wear the cowl, Adam West. So, to be cast as Batman is to submit yourself to immediate criticism, and for your performance to be scrutinized down to the minute. When Robert Pattinson was cast in May of 2019, he stepped into an ocean of doubts, concerns, and warnings.

Pattinson’s Take On Batman

Director Matt Reeves spoke with Robert early on in the production process. Together they formulated a nuanced approach to the character for The Batman with a foundation based on Nirvana’s Kurt Cobain.

This version of Batman is young, rough-around-the-edges, and emotionally distant. A man who’s too busy being the Batman to care about being Bruce Wayne. He doesn’t understand the concept of balancing his life. He calls himself “vengeance” instead of “justice”.

Through Pattinson, The Batman shines as the foundation of a hero who learns how to understand the world he’s in and shine through the darkness.
