‘300: Rise of an Empire’ Slays Box Office Competition

“300: Rise of an Empire” dominated its opening weekend at the box office, both domestically and internationally.

The “300: Rise of an Empire”, opened up #1 at the box office post-Oscars weekend grossing $45.1 million domestically and $87.8 million internationally. It has been seven years since the first “300” film was released, which debuted at $70 million and eventually earned $456 million worldwide back in 2007.

“Rise of an Empire” dominated its competition at the box office placing the debut of “Mr. Peabody & Sherman” at #2 with $32.5 million, “Non-Stop” went from #1 to #3 with $15.4 million, “The LEGO Movie” at #4 with another $11 million and “Son of God” landing at #5 with $10 million this weekend.

Here are the box office results for this weekend:

1. “300: Rise of an Empire,” $45.1 million ($87.8 million international).
2. “Mr. Peabody & Sherman,” $32.5 million ($21 million international).
3. “Non-Stop,” $15.4 million ($12 million international).
4. “The Lego Movie,” $11 million ($9.9 million international).
5. “Son of God,” $10 million.
6. “The Monuments Men,” $3.1 million ($3.7 million international).
7. “3 Days to Kill,” $3.1 million.
8. “Frozen,” $3 million ($3.6 million international).
9. “12 Years a Slave,” $2.2 million ($9.1 million international).
10. “Ride Along,” $2 million ($1.8 million international).
