Actor Mickey Rooney Dead At 93

TMZ is reporting that legendary screen actor Mickey Rooney died Sunday at the age of 93.

According to the report, Rooney had been in bad health for quite some time.

Born Joe Yule Jr. on September 23, 1920 in Brooklyn, New York, he changed his name to Mickey Rooney in 1927 following an appearance as character Mickey McGuire in a series of short films. According to his official website, he first took the stage at 17 months old as part of his parents’ vaudeville act.

Rooney appeared in several popular films including “National Velvet” with Elizabeth Taylor, “Babes In Arms” with Judy Garland and “Breakfast At Tiffany’s” with Audrey Hepburn.

He was also well known for playing the role of Andy Hardy in 20 films from “The Hardy Boys” series.
