‘Alien: Covenant’ Poster Debuts, Release Date Moves Up To May 2017

When Alien debuted in theaters it had a single, declarative statement: “In space no one can hear you scream.”

Now, with the upcoming release of Alien: Covenant, it’s “Run.”

20th Century Fox has debuted the first poster and it is a creepy and wonderful tease.

Not only that, but the studio has shifted its release from the previously announced August 4, 2017 date and moved it up three months to May 19, 2017. With the new release date it will be a battle of sequels as it squares off against Annabelle 2, Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul, and The Nut Job 2. Dwayne Johnson’s and Zac Efron’s comedy Baywatch (based on the hit 1990s television show) also opens on that date.

Ridley Scott returns to the director’s chair and the series, having previously helmed the original 1979 release and 2012’s Prometheus, with Noomi Rapace reprising her role as Dr. Elizabeth Shaw. Also returning is Michael Fassbender as the android David. Newcomers include Billy Crudup, Katherine Waterston and Danny McBride.

According to a synopsis from last November, Alien: Covenant is the second chapter in the Alien prequel trilogy, with the colony ship Covenant discovering a paradise world on the far side of the galaxy, only to learn it’s actually a dangerous world whose only inhabitant is the synthetic David.
