‘American Assassin’ Ups The Action In Latest Trailer

CBS Films and Lionsgate are looking to establish its own Jason Bourne action franchise, and they just may have it with American Assassin. Based on the Mitch Rapp series by author Vince Flynn, Assassin aims to be the starting point of an action franchise involving a CIA black ops recruit. In the latest red-band trailer, the action intensifies as Rapp (Dylan O’Brien), along with his instructor Stan Hurley (Michael Keaton), investigate a string of attacks on military and civilians. Working under CIA Deputy Director Irene Kennedy (Sanaa Lathan) the three discover a pattern that leads them to a Turkish agent and one of Hurley’s former operatives.

Michael Cuesta, who previously helmed the Jeremy Renner drama Kill the Messenger, directs from a screenplay written by Stephen Schiff along with Edward Zwick & Marshall Herskovitz. In addition to Dylan O’Brien, Michael Keaton, and Sanaa Lathan, the film co-stars Shiva Negar, Scott Adkins and Taylor Kitsch. American Assassin is set to open in theaters on September 15, 2017.
