Billy Porter Set to Direct Teen Comedy ‘Camp’

Billy Porter has agreed to direct the film adaptation of Camp for HBO Max and Warner Bros. Dan Jinks will produce while Robert O’ Hara will rewrite the screenplay by Kit Williamson according to Deadline. The film is based on the novel written by Lev Rosen.

About ‘Camp’

Randy Kapplehoff, a sixteen-year-old queer teenager who loves spending his time at Camp Outland (a camp for queer teens). This camp is where he found his best friends, love for performing in musicals and most of all, where he fell for Hudson-Aaronson-Lim. However, Hudson only goes for straight-acting guys. So Randy reinvents himself over the summer as Del, an available masculine guy. After completely changing himself, Randy starts to wonder… is it worth it for love?

Billy Porter’s Role in ‘Camp’

Porter will also portray the role of Mark, the camp’s theater director.

“Billy Porter, who I’ve been fortunate to know for more than 20 years, is the perfect director for this story, which is both hilariously funny, and also quite moving,” Jinks said. “I wish a movie like this was around when I was growing up.  I’m thrilled we get to make it now.”

Porter is an Emmy, Grammy and Tony award winning actor. He has earned three consecutive Emmy noms for the FX series Pose. As a result, he won best lead actor in a drama series in 2019.
