Box Office Report: ‘Bad Grandpa’ Beats ‘Gravity’

Johnny Knoxville’s new comedy Bad Grandpa opened to a strong $32 million, topping Sandra Bullock’s Gravity, to take the number one spot at the weekend box office.

The Warner Bros. space thriller ruled the box office for the last three weeks, before slipping to second place with $20.3 million. The film has now surpassed the $200 million mark in North America.

Tom Hank’s Captain Phillips dropped a spot as well, bumping down to third place with $11.8 million in its third week.

In it’s debut week, The Counselor directed by Ridley Scott, opened to $8 million to take fourth place. The film, made for only $25 million, stars Michael Fassbender, Penelope Cruz, Cameron Diaz, Javier Bardem and Brad Pitt.
