Dax Shepard And Michael Pena Are The New ‘CHiPs’

CHiPs Ahoy!

Well it looks like Warner Bros. is so confident with how the movie adaptation of that ’70s TV show is testing that it’s been moved up to a spring release. Now set to open March 24, 2017, CHiPs is directed by Dax Shepard (who previously helmed 2012’s Hit and Run). He stars as Jon Baker and Michael Pena is Frank “Ponch” Poncherello. Both have joined the California Highway Patrol (CHP) but for different reasons. Baker is a former pro motorbiker looking for a new start. Ponch is an FBI undercover agent investigating a string of robberies that may involve members of the CHP.

This first trailer makes it seem suitable for the PG-13 crowd, but it has been rated R for crude sexual content, graphic nudity, pervasive language and drug use. The success of 21 Jump Street and its sequel (both starring Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill) showed that it is possible to bring relevancy to an old TV show just as long as you’re casual with the source material.
