Disney Movies Headed Exclusively To Netflix This Fall

Summer movie nights are nearly upon us, and it just got magically better! On Monday (May 23^rd) – after four years in the making – Netflix announced that it would become the exclusive streaming carrier for Disney films on U.S. pay TV services starting this fall.

“From September onwards, Netflix will become the exclusive U.S. pay TV home of the latest films from Disney, Marvel, Lucasfilm and Pixar,” Ted Sarandos, Netflix’s head of content, wrote on their blog. Currently, Starz has the rights to Disney films, but it won’t once September rolls around.

Netflix’s U.S. rights cover Disney movies starting with 2016 theatrical releases, which include Zootopia, The Jungle Book, Captain America: Civil War, Alice Through the Looking Glass, Finding Dory, The BFG, Pete’s Dragon, Doctor Strange, Moana and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

“The 2016 (Disney) releases will start rolling on in September and we’ll share specific dates/titles closer to their premiere on the service,” a Netflix rep said. Although specific films weren’t named, there is sure to be something enjoyable for everyone in the family.

Meanwhile, Netflix also revealed that several Disney titles would be leaving the service this summer in June. Those include Hercules (June 1), Mulan and Hunchback of Notre Dame (June 24); Disney movies that will remain include Tarzan, Robin Hood, Lilo & Stitch and Emperor’s New Groove.
