Disney Orders Reshoots of ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’

The next Star Wars film will be needing some reshoots.

After watching the initial cut of standalone film Rogue One: A Star Wars Story from director Gareth Edwards, Disney decided it requires four weeks of additional production for reshoots.  Disney executives reportedly felt that the tone of Rogue One doesn’t match up with the other Star Wars movies. The film has not been viewed by test audiences, but sources say Rogue One feels like a war movie.

The reshoots, which will take place this summer, are to “lighten the mood, bring some levity into the story and restore a sense of fun to the adventure,” according to the Hollywood Reporter’s source. Another possible reason for the reshoots could be to include an appearance by Alden Ehrenreich, who nabbed the role of young Han Solo for another Star Wars spinoff movie.

Rogue One takes place before 1977’s Star Wars – Episode IV: A New Hope and focuses on the group of rebels who steal the plans to the Death Star. It stars Felicity Jones, Mads Mikkelsen, Alan Tudyk, Donnie Yen, Forest Whitaker, Diego Luna and Riz Ahmed.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is still slated to be released December 16, 2016.
